| Motivation zum Sport | After a heavy race like the Hawaii Ironman one starts to reflect about why you expose yourself to so much pain and push yourself to the ultimate limits. In essence, extreme endurance sport is a physical and mental adventure that makes me feel very alive. It is the nucleus of passion that radiates energy to all other areas of life. Contrary to what many people believe, there is nothing heroic about an ironman race. At the point when your body switches to "survival mode" you become very small and vulnerable. All the big thoughts and words that might have existed before the race become meaningless and ridiculous. The only thing that matters is to focus all the remaining mental power on pushing your fragile body forward. An Ironman race is the best teacher of humbleness that I ever had the privilege to encounter. | |
